Supporting Role

Sometimes it just hits me and I am overcome by a confidence of being chosen to live in this time, in this place, for a reason, for God’s purposes.  I want to remind you of that today that the same is true for you, to every detail of your life.  Sometimes we might be the one the spotlight is on, receiving attention or praise for our work, but most of the time that’s not the case.

Lately God has been speaking to me about the incredible power of love, and how important it is to be a “supporting role” in others lives. A steady and safe place for others.  The love God pours into me can pour into others, and give them confidence and boldness to live their lives according to their calling and purpose.

I imagine a physical church building and how we sometimes want to be the beautiful stained glass windows others notice. Most of the time though, we’re going to be part of the bricks holding up and surrounding the windows – steady and strong, helping others show their beautiful colors God designed them with. As we rely on God to support and encourage us, we can do the same for others.

Father God, what a beautiful truth you revealed. Thank you for the gift of family and community, and the people who have supported me in my life. Help me to be an instrument of your love and encouragement. Help me to be generous with my love and patience, and may all my good works point others to you. Help me be a stable, safe, constant source of your love to the people you’ve placed in my life. Teach me to pray with them and for them, and fill me with wisdom. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
