Lent Day 9: Today I battle for understanding of scripture

Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Lord, I love your Word. You have changed my life, my attitudes, my perspectives through the reading and praying of your Word. Thank you for its widespread availability in our country and our freedom to read it and proclaim it.

Oh Lord, I beg you to send your Spirit to animate your people through your Word. What would happen in my family, in my church, in our city, if we were meditating on your Word like Joshua!

Holy Spirit, I ask that everyone will believe the Bible are words coming straight from God to them. Compel us to read the Bible, to be filled with truth, to make time to meditate on it. Awaken curiosity. Accelerate our understanding. May words lift off the page and strike the heart and mind. Lead us closer to you, Lord. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
