Repentance

Lent Day 15: Today I battle for repentance.

“Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.” 1 John 5:21

Jesus, I hear the topic of repentance often in the Christian life. I think of it as making sure I’m on the path of life with you, Jesus, and not just carving out my own way. It’s easy to get distracted and leave the path. It’s easy to let our hearts seek the goods of this world above God. Repentance is necessary for the abundant life. Thank you Lord for always stepping in when I’m seeking what is not good for my soul or others’ for eternity.

Come Holy Spirit. May we desire God more than the things of this earth. May we hunger and thirst for relationship and closeness with Him. Give us hearts of repentance and the strength to turn away from a life of selfishness and self-sufficiency. Forgive us, Lord.

I like the simple phrase, “You become what you behold.” May we become more like Jesus. Teach us your ways and may our hearts be humble to learn and receive correction. Lead us on this path to abundant life with you. I love you. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
