“Let me”

Lent Day 38: Today I battle to let you love me.

Jesus, as my children came in this morning asking me for a smoothie, to play a game, and help them find a toy, I already felt empty to give to them today. Yikes, that didn’t take much!

As I went into my room to grab something, I was thinking about the last supper and how you got up from the table, took off your robe, wrapped a towel around your waist, and poured water into a basin. Then you washed your disciples’ feet and dried them with the towel.

I heard you say, “Let me wash your feet.”

Jesus, if you give me the time, I will gladly spend all day letting you love me, but these kids have a list for me of things they need.

“Let me wash your feet.”

I stepped outside and took in a deep breath of the fresh spring air. It calmed me. I noticed the fire pit from last night was still smoking, and the lillies are growing and will bloom soon. Thank you for this beautiful day, Jesus.

I made the smoothie. We played the game. I sat down to write this prayer, and my daughter knocked on the window to tell me our first flower bloomed in the front. I paused and went outside to look at the new life opening outside just for us to see and enjoy together. Thank you, Jesus.

“Let me wash your feet.”

Jesus, you give abundantly more than I do, thank you for slowing me down today to let you love me. You are so kind.

I pray for your people, your children today to let you wash their feet too. May we be humble and slow down to let you wash our feet. May we receive your rivers of living water as we remember the Last Supper you ate with your friends. Thank you Jesus, I love you. Amen.
