Marriages

Lent Day 13: Today I battle for marriages

Jesus, you know how vulnerable I am about my marriage. The relationship I hold most dear to me. Thank you for the gift of my husband and the love between us. There are a few specific prayers on my heart that I lift to you today. Jesus, my words lean towards my marriage, but my heart also prays them for the marriages of my family and friends and community.

Holy Spirit, I ask you to unite our hearts and protect us from comparison. As unique as two individuals are, our marriage should look different from others. When I compare him or our marriage to my perception of others, our relationship suffers. When I seek gratitude for the good in my husband and our commitment to one another, my peace, contentment, joy, and love grow. May I live with gratitude, Lord!

Holy Spirit, I ask for wisdom and kindness in how we speak and interact with each other, and help me to be his number one supporter and encourager. May I trust in God as I accept the authority of my husband in our relationship.

Last but not least, Father God, I wonder what you created our marriage and family to be. I don’t want to get in the way of your plans. I don’t think we’re your “typical” Christian family, but then again, that’s a perception thing, and I am choosing not to compare. So again, I live in the wonder of what you created our marriage and family to be. You write the best stories, Lord, even through heart break. I trust in you, and surrender the details into your hands. We’ll walk with you and let you lead. You have forever on your mind. Thank you for the gift of my marriage and family. In your name I pray, Amen.
