When They Saw The Star

I was thinking about the darkness and stillness of the long journey that the Wise Men made to Bethlehem. Because of the darkness, they could follow the bright star that led them there. And when they saw the star stop over the place where the child Jesus was, “they were filled with joy!” (Matthew 2:10)

Our world can be filled with so much noise and glamour, that I cling to hope that my family, especially my kids, can see through it all to find Jesus, and like the Wise Men, to find great joy in the presence of God.

Jesus, could we all be filled with great joy at the evidence of your presence? At the sound of your name? Great, abounding joy? Could my family love going to mass, love praying together, love reading scripture? Love worshiping you, love talking about your goodness, mercy, love and mighty deeds? Could we have eyes to see you in our everyday? Could our hearts be stirred at the thought of you? Please don’t let us go through this life with hearts cold to you, hardened to you. Fill us with your life and love. You have given us so much Lord, thank you for being so generous, in ways we can’t always understand or see. Help us to see and to feel what’s real and what matters. Amen.
