I wanted to share this vision of Moses that’s been on my mind of us praying for others – Moses fighting the battle against the Amalekites with intercessory prayer to God.
Exodus 17:10-12. “Joshua did as Moses told him: he engaged Amalek in battle while Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of the hill. As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, Amalek had the better of the fight. Moses’ hands, however, grew tired; so they took a rock and put it under him and he sat on it. Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady until sunset. And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the sword.”
Everyone has their own battles and obstacles in life. Maybe this story is included in the Bible to encourage us to keep praying for others, to tell us that our prayers matter. God could have defeated the Amalekites without Moses, but He chose to work through Moses and to allow Moses to participate in His great plan. However, it was not to be mistaken that Joshua’s victory was from God.
May I never be mistaken of who deserves the glory when my prayers are answered.
Jesus, you are our teacher, our friend, our mighty savior. We humbly come before you, grateful that you chose us to intercede on behalf of our loved ones and friends. We keep our hands up like Moses, praying and knowing only your power can win the victories. Give us eyes to see the victories. Help us to fight against discouragement, and to trust that you hear our pleas and that you have the best plans for our lives. You make beauty from ashes. Thank you for your unfailing love. Amen.
