Fresh Perspective

God, give us a fresh perspective of all that Good Friday means. Let us peel back one more layer of the mystery. Let us believe in the love and power of what happened when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. Let us feel the joy of the victory.

A fresh perspective, Lord. I remember one morning I lost my cool and yelled at my kids, and the guilt and shame I felt at mass that morning was pulling me into some dark waters. Then we got to the part of the mass where we say, “Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.” And it was like a hand reached down and pulled me out of the darkness. In reconciling with God and my children, I can be free of the shame. I am allowed to live in peace – and He wants me to live in peace because He came to wash my sins clean. Thank you Jesus!

A fresh perspective, Lord. A friend of mine has been entering this week wondering what it was like for Jesus’ mother, Mary. To surrender her son Jesus to the will of the Father. To watch Him die on the cross for the very people who were killing Him.

A fresh perspective, Lord. What was this day like for Peter or John, for Mary Magdalene, the criminals hanging beside Jesus, for Salome, or for Simon of Cyrene? Help us enter into this day, Holy Spirit. Praying for a fresh perspective for all of us this Good Friday.
