Finding Jesus

The joy of finding Jesus. I contemplate this story from Luke 2:41-47, and think of the great joy for everyone who finds Jesus.

“Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual. After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, because they assumed he was among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends.

When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.”

Jesus tells me He is with me and in me. I belong to Him. Sometimes these truths are overlooked or brushed aside. Sometimes I get so used to these truths that they lose meaning in my heart. Sometimes we just need a fresh set of eyes to see Jesus in our everyday life.

Jesus, help me to find you in prayer and scripture.

Jesus, help me to find you in all of these kids’ activities.

Jesus, help me to find you in this unfair situation.

Jesus, help me to find you in the busyness and chaos.

Jesus, help me to find you in this pain.

Jesus, help me to find you in this illness and doctor visits.

Jesus, help me find you when I’m misunderstood and lonely.

Jesus, help me to find you in the Eucharist, in Confession, and in the people in your church.

Jesus, help me to find you at my work and in my coworkers.

Jesus, help me to find you in this depression and anxiety.

Jesus, help me to find you in those I disagree with.

Yes, Jesus, give me eyes to see you and ears to hear you, and as I find and encounter you, fill me with overflowing joy. In all circumstances, could I know your unfailing love, provision, and peace? May I be amazed by you Jesus, again and again. I also pray these things for my family and friends. Life with you is the best way to live. Thank you for never leaving my side. Amen.
