Let Go

How do we approach surrender to our God? About 2 weeks ago, I was bombarded with fear. First came fears of “measuring up” to either other’s expectations, or my own. Then days later, my car was broken into and my purse stolen…leading to all sorts of fears of security.

I told God I surrender my fears to Him and tried not to dwell on them, but I couldn’t shake them.

My friend gave me an image of what she thinks surrender looks like: standing on the shore of a river, and the surrender is taking a step onto a stone in the water. Saying I trust you God that you will hold me up in this spot while the water rushes past. Then when God directs, I take the step to the next stone in the water, in trust that He’s taking care of everything.

And you know what, I have been resting in this image, believing my Father God is with me and taking care of me in ways I don’t always see or understand. He is a rock, a firm foundation to cast my fears and anxieties to, and I do believe He’s directing me one step at a time, giving me clarity and support to navigate unfortunate circumstances.

Father God, you did not give me a spirit of fear, but of courage, of love, and self discipline. Yes, God, free me from fear and anxiety. I stand on my rock, as you are unshakeable and unchanging, holding me securely above the water. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
