His Commitment

After the first year of Covid, I kept hearing the same word used to describe God. FAITHFUL. He is faithful. We saw Him clearly present through the muck that arose in the world.

I don’t think I have doubted His commitment to me, even in my worst of days, but I have definitely taken it for-granted. This truth about God really matters. Jesus’ blood on the cross was a sign of God’s new covenant with us – He’s committed Himself to us like a bridegroom to His bride.

Here’s what the Lord says in Hosea 2: “I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion. I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the Lord.”

Commitment. We take this personally. Everlasting commitment from a holy God who does not lie, who does not leave, who keeps His promises forever.

He gives Himself completely to us, and allows Himself the vulnerability to be hurt by His children. But that’s what love often does. And His love is so vast that it covers our multitude of ways we may hurt Him or others.

Let’s let His faithfulness fill us with joy and gratitude. Let’s commit ourselves to Him again, and when we ourselves are unfaithful, we’ll come in humility and repentance to our good Father who welcomes us back where we belong – with Him.

Father God, I praise your faithfulness today. Your commitment and constant love are too wonderful for words, and I am so grateful for your presence in my life. Thank you. I commit myself to you, to live as your beloved, as you are mine. I seek to live for you, with you, and in you all the days of my life. May my love for you increase as much as it possibly can on this earth. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
