Don’t Miss The Miracle

We were surprised at mass last Sunday with a healing service right in the middle of mass. This was a first for my family, as we didn’t even know they did this at our church. They said that anyone who wanted an anointing for healing could come up and receive one. I never expected hundreds of people to line up to receive this anointing, and it took maybe 40 minutes for the lines to go through.

I stood in line and received the anointing. It is incredible the way God can whisper to you in moments like these, “Hey my beloved, I see you. I see what you’re experiencing and I want you to know that you’re not alone. I am right here with you. There is a bigger story here, just hold on to me.”

When I came back to the pew to sit by my family, one of my kids made a comment about how long mass was going to be now. I leaned over and said, “Don’t miss the miracle.”

It is a miracle for people to line up vulnerably and humbly to ask for healing of emotional, mental, or physical suffering. People looking for help, for answers, feeling alone in their suffering, and to continue asking God for healing when they don’t know if they’ll receive the type of healing they’re asking for.

How many times do we get caught up in the circumstances and miss the miracles? In the Gospels, the Pharisees again and again overlook the miracles that Jesus performs because they’re so focused on the rules He’s breaking or the people He was spending time with. I’m sure we can all get caught missing miracles at times, but I don’t want to live that way.

Father God, I believe that you are always moving, always fulfilling your great plans for us, your children. May I live attentive to you, believing that you are present in every moment of my day. May my life include time to reflect and to ponder you, to seek you. Give me childlike wonder and awe. Show me the way. Help me to see the miracles, when you are reminding your children that you see them and you hold them close. Amen.
