Joy

Today is one of those days when my heart is overflowing with joy. It started with a funny joke this morning and the joy carried me moment by moment through the day. When I had a moment of quiet I thought, “Jesus, I want to share my joy with you.”

This prayer seemed to move me from feeling like ‘He’s watching me’ to ‘He’s experiencing life with me’. The joyful image I rested in was of Jesus and I flying through the air as eagles, with me soaring under His wings, looking down upon the beautiful world. Shared adventure. Shared joy.

I often write about the hard days, because it’s so clear to me that Jesus understands me more than anyone. It’s often easier to bring Him my troubles and trials because I know He’ll help me sort them out in my mind and heart. He is gentle and attentive to my needs. However, sharing joy with Jesus also felt like intimacy and friendship in a different way. I mean, this is what friends do – we experience both joys and sorrows together.

Jesus, I can only imagine what a joyful man you were on earth. Radiant. Funny. Full of life. I imagine that when we, your children, are filled with joy, it gives you great delight. Thank you for teaching me to share my joy with you. It makes my joy more complete. May this always be the inclination of my heart, to share my life with you. Amen.

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.“ Psalm 126:3
