One Christmas I drove home alone, 8 hours on the interstate, at night in thick fog. It was long and difficult, but I just desired the joy and rest of being with my family at home so much that I kept driving until I made it.
This life can be like that drive. Long, difficult, foggy of what is coming up next on the path. What gives me hope and endurance on this journey is the promise at the end – home. My true home I was created for, where peace, joy, and love reign. A safe place where I am seen, known, and loved as I am.
I imagine when I meet God and His angels and our brothers and sisters in heaven, I will humbly fall to my knees in wonder and awe of God, in great gratitude, love, and joy. He will fully reveal His great heart, and show us all His wondrous works that we can’t comprehend here on earth. And I imagine hearing, “Hallelujah! You’re home.” Oh what peace this fills me with, knowing this pursuit is for our eternal home.
Come Holy Spirit, fill me with the joy of my salvation, won for me by the beloved son and my king Jesus Christ. Craft my heart to one of worship – fill me with understanding of what Jesus did for me through His death on the cross. Help me to have an eternal perspective of this life, of my suffering, of possessions, of how I spend my time, of power and wealth. Strengthen me with perseverance to run this race well and in step with you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
“Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you.” 1 Timothy 6:11-12
