How God knows us inside and out! I am so grateful for the times I know He is leading me, especially in parenting.
A few mornings ago, I prayed with this verse from Proverbs 18:2, “Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.” I prayed God would help me slow down and try to understand others before I speak.
That evening, my sons were arguing and one hit the other. My reaction was sending him upstairs to his room. My kids’ arguments are rarely black and white. As I sat thinking about how to move forward in this situation, the word “understanding” came to my mind. I knew it was the Holy Spirit reminding me of the verse I’d read that morning. I went upstairs and asked my son to tell me his perspective of what happened. Taking the time to understand seemed to do more good for my sons than anything else I could come up with.
I see God showing me that I can rely on Him to help me when I ask. I also see that I need to listen and follow through with what He says.
Poppa, you are the potter and I am the clay. I praise you and thank you for forming me and guiding me through the wisdom in your Word. Being a parent is hard. Help me to have a teachable spirit, and approach your Word in humility and expectancy that you will speak to me through it. Mold me in your loving hands. I trust in you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
