Chosen

After being together for 18 years, it still humbles me that my husband chose to marry me and commit himself to me for the rest of our lives.

Whether it’s in marriage, at work, in social circles, in sports or hobbies, we all have within us a desire to be chosen; to be singled out as special; to be worth spending time with or sacrificing for.

God designed us with this desire to be chosen, and it is most fully and deeply satisfied by Him. This allows for an intimate and vital bond of love between us – Father and adopted child; Creator and created masterpiece; Savior and fallen or lost; Bridegroom and bride.

I want to pray for a deeper understanding of what it means that God chose me. What does this tell me about God?

Poppa, thank you for scripture and how it reveals your heart. Jesus told His friends in John 15:16, “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you.” I read this humbly, and very curiously. Could you send your Spirit to reveal to me what this means for my life? Could your Spirit move this truth of your love from my head to my heart? How do you want me to respond? Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for your love and faithfulness. Show me the way. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

“I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord.” Hosea 2:19-20
