Asking for Virtues

My friend gave me a list of biblical virtues to pray for your children for each day of the month. I prayed them in the mornings by myself, and realized these might be good for my children to know that we’re asking for these virtues for them. So now when I wake them up, I tell them the virtue we’re asking for, invite the Holy Spirit, and say the short prayer. Sometimes I add, “Thank you God for the gift of _________________ in our family, we love him so much.”

God generously gives virtues to His children without even asking, but I want my children to be able to recognize where the gifts that they have come from. Not from their own strength or greatness, but to know that every good and perfect gift is from God (James 1:17).

Poppa, you are God and I am not. I praise you and thank you for my children and who you created them to be. Lead me as their mother – help me to be humble and listen for your voice. Show me how to continue to plant seeds of faith in them. I believe your Spirit is within them, and I surrender control to you. They are your children, they are in your hands. Thank you for everything, I love you, and I ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
