We just went to a science museum, and my daughter was building a structure of Lincoln logs. When she finished, she pushed a button that shook the platform the structure was built on. It shook and shook, and we watched to see if her creation would stay together. The wooden beams on top fell off immediately, but her carefully placed Lincoln logs held together. I told her, “Do you see how important it is to have a solid, firm foundation? Then no matter what storm or earthquake comes, the structure will stand.”
Throughout the storms of this past year, while we were praying for a cure for the pandemic, for strength for the healthcare workers, for healing for the sick, for peace and reconciliation, for the election…I was reminded of these truths again and again, “God is not shaken.” “God is in control.” “None of this surprises God.” “God is faithful to His children.”
Listening to truth about God’s character, praying to Him, and seeing how He is taking care of us, is building a firm foundation within my heart. I tell my kids again and again that the words we read and listen to matter. So does spending time with Him, pouring out my heart to Him.
Come Holy Spirit, reveal to me what I am building my foundation on. Reveal to me where I am placing my hope and security, as I long to place my hope only in you, God. Poppa, you are my strength. Poppa, you are my rock. Poppa, you are my anchor to keep me steady in the waves. Poppa, you go before me and behind me. Poppa, I want you to be the center of my life, the firm foundation I stand upon. Show me the path, I surrender to your will in humility. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.
“Those trusting in the Lord are like Mount Zion, unshakable, forever enduring. As mountains surround Jerusalem, the Lord surrounds his people both now and forever.” Psalm 125:1-2
