Lord, I believe in your promise in Jeremiah 29:13-14, “When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me.”
In 2014, although things on the outside were great, I felt like I was in a stagnant place on the inside. It just seemed there was more to life than what I experienced. One evening, I went to mass and heard the priest say this prayer, “Lord, tell me what you want me to do with my life, and help me do it.” It struck me, because for some reason, it never occurred to me to ask God what He wanted for my life (especially now that I was in my 30s), or that He would even want to be so intimately involved to lead me and help me in the details.
I wrote down the prayer, and after mass, I knelt down and invited God in, saying, “Lord, tell me what you want me to do with my life, and help me do it.” I prayed this surrender everyday for a few weeks. And things started happening – God intersected my life in ways that I couldn’t miss. So I’d say yes, and try the small thing I felt He was leading me to. Then I’d say yes to the next small thing that I felt He was leading me to. He was gently teaching me to hear his voice, to follow, and to trust in Him.
Lord, I was like a little lamb, lost and with no direction. Then you spoke into my life and reminded me that you are my Good Shepherd, and you have a path for me that leads to healing, goodness, and truth. I surrender my plans, my hopes, my life, into your hands. Give me the courage to say yes to what you ask of me each day. Guard me from complacency, as I hope to grow closer to you every day. There is no one like you, I trust you, I love you. Amen.
