Inviting God Into Relationships

I have been wondering about the power of prayer. Beyond interceding to God and hoping to receive what we asked for, what else is happening when we pray with others? I love imagining the possibilities.

Ephesians 2:14 says, “For He is our peace, He who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity through His flesh.”

A few years ago, I began praying with a family member through email – everyday we would read the same chapter in the Bible, write down the word, phrase, or verse that stirred our hearts, and then a short prayer related to what we wrote down.

Over time, I gained a new perspective of my family member, more compassion for her heart and why she acted the way she did, and humility which allowed me to respect our differences. We went from a relationship of the 2 of us to a relationship of 3, as God became a part. This probably wouldn’t work for every relationship, but it did for this one, and I’m so grateful. It was beautiful to see how God transformed our relationship through prayer and His Word in the Bible. He truly is our unity and our peace.

Father God, is there a relationship in my life that you want to be a part of and you are not right now? Could you illuminate it for me and show me the way? I want you to be the author of my relationships. You are so good Father, you make all things new. Be my light, my guide. I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
