Asking for the Water

Jesus stood up and exclaimed…”Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as scripture says, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from within him.’ He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive.” John 7:37-39

As I’m learning about compassion from Jesus in the Gospels, my heart has been moved to wonder about receiving this gift of compassion. I wonder how the disposition of my heart affects my readiness to receive this grace and share compassion with others.

  • Am I seeking God’s will or my own?
  • Is there unconfessed sin on my heart?
  • What am I filling my mind with during the day?
  • Is my heart idolizing something making my heart not free to respond to God?

Come Holy Spirit, the love of the Father and Son, please fill me with a river of living water. May your compassion flood my heart, and give me the ability to see into the heart, to allow me to help others in their need. I surrender my will, may it be in line with God’s will and purpose. Open my eyes and mind to anything hindering this flow of your grace. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
